- Interact with the target room or entity long enough for the game to register it.
- After the run, confirm the entry and plan the next missing category.
Use the Journal as a route planner
The Journal is most useful before a run, not only after one. Empty entries tell you whether the next attempt should focus on The Archives, a rare special room, or the Door 152 route into The Stairwell.
Because Honcho and some special encounters can be missed or behave differently between runs, do not turn every attempt into a full A–Z clear. A focused entry run can end after the target registers.
Separate Archives and Stairwell goals
The Archives uses the 26-sector A–Z route. The Stairwell requires preparation in The Mines and a Skeleton Key near Door 152. Track these as separate Journal sessions so a missing key does not invalidate an otherwise useful Archives attempt.
- Archives run: prioritize Drones, Teller, Ransom, Bash, Scribbles, Alma, Fih, and Forget-Me-Not.
- Stairwell run: bring the Skeleton Key and prepare for Creak and Noise.
- Item run: interact with Gold, recovery items, fish food, and route keys when available.
- Location run: pause at distinctive special rooms before taking the exit.
Check entries after each attempt
The Journal’s value is completion accuracy. Before repeating a difficult encounter, confirm whether the entry already registered. If it did not, note the exact interaction you completed and change one part of the next attempt rather than repeating an identical route blindly.
